Today, one of our challenges is to prepare for our reopening or more simply to relaunch our sales activities to win back our customers, our priority markets which will respond in the short term initially. But for that, we need the teams !

Recruiting teams, integrating and the return of employees to the professional environment that they have forgotten during these times of confinement is certainly one of the current challenges for professionals in the hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants and bars).
So, maybe it’s time to spot your #happinessmanagers in your team? Those who will support you in this period of change to transform your business and create an environment where your teams will be happy. They will give it back to your guests and everyone will be a winner!
What is happiness ? Gerard-Dominique Carton, in his book “Happy Manager, Happiness? Why not! Suffering at work can be conquered” Palio editions, describes the components of happiness quite precisely:
To be happy in your job, you have to meet some satisfaction, at least personal, if not professional. But happiness depends on several factors we must have:
- An objective awareness of the absence of misfortune: Contrary to our culture, we must get rid of our daily misfortunes and be satisfied with elements of satisfaction, however small.
- An ability to find satisfaction in effort: Effort, to be a source of happiness, must be useful.
- Humility and modesty, at the service of human ambitions: Do not seek your little happiness but open up to others and the world.
- An ability to be neither envious, nor jealous, nor hateful: These three faults always prevent you from finding happiness and spreading it.
- A healthy relationship with authority: Authority is built on competence, relationship to others and the mission more than on status.
- A project and build it in the present: Having a life project is an essential condition for knowing happiness.

Proximity to situations, otherwise called being in the field, often prevents having a complete vision, and the total lack of proximity seriously impedes the ability to apprehend some realities:
“A good manager must be able to both focus on the details and to rise to see the big picture!” Walk the talk.
- Proximity to people // the right level of proximity is the one that allows sharing of experiences, points of view, information, a relationship marked by respect and empathy, which is called trust.
- Reconciling professional and personal life // You have to choose your job, the pace of which is in line with your wishes, or then accept the constraints of pace while appreciating them for the opportunities they offer.
Searching for managerial happiness is a virtuous process. We will find a way to succeed in our projects if we have a clear, strong, positive representation of them, because this will lead us to deploy the actions and behaviors that are necessary, then we will obtain encouraging results at one time or another, and that this will strengthen our belief in achieving success.
“Freedom and autonomy at the heart of happiness at work“
The spleen of work primarily affects those who focus on problems more than on solutions. Knowing the causes and the responsibilities of a problem allows, if it is recurrent, to avoid its repetition but it is often enough to act on the problem to find the solution.
For managers, the ability to reduce stress and the one of their employees is key to happiness. It is possible for everyone to work on the causes of stress that affect them. To do this, we must recalibrate the importance given to situations and events, as well as to the judgments of others and their consequences.
The solutions to create a serene work environment and develop the “happiness attitude”: The willingness being happy is a positive choice!
- Give meaning to our own life, including professional.
- Make the effort to understand the motivations of others and do not make value judgments.
- Self-control, in all circumstances, but above all in difficult, conflictual situations.
- Act effectively, that is to say allowing to obtain the desired result.
Advice
Do a team work on these 9 principles:
- Avoid all negative thoughts;
- Forge your experience by practicing yourself;
- Embrace all the arts and do not limit yourself to one;
- Know the path of each job, and not limit yourself to the one you practice yourself;
- Know how to distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of each thing;
- In all things, get used to intuitive judgment;
- Perceive what we do not see;
- Pay attention to the smallest detail;
- Don’t do anything unnecessary, ever.
Creating a favorable environment in the company is, among other things, knowing how to communicate: It is not what I say which is important, it is what my interlocutors understand!
Accepting the people around us for what they are, integrally, with the concern to build with them, to help each other improve each other, is one of the keys to happiness at work.
Happiness at work is therefore not a matter of one person, but through everyone in the company. Recruiting or detecting a “Happy manager” can be an asset if you, yourself, conceive of taking your team in this state of mind and that is part of your objective: Cultivate good attitudes, develop listening skills, implementing actions to improve working conditions for the teams and regularly. The objective is not the achievement of an expected result, in this case, but a permanent process of improvement, listening, exchanges and ensuring that each employee has made the choice of happiness.
So, to relaunch activities, to get out of this current slump created during the Covid-19 health crisis, it is necessary again and more than ever to unite teams, motivate them and ensure a professional environment that will allow them to flourish. This mindset of “Hapiness Management” must come from the leader to finally decline it in a concrete way in business.
“We all think that happiness is at the top of the mountain, whereas it lies in the way we climb“. Confucius.
